Abstract:

Structural vibration control is a promising research area for researchers and engineers in relevant engineering fields, which is attracting more and more attentions in the world. This lecture presents the research on metallic damper, friction-Metallic combination damper, story-increased buildings with energy dissipated devices, tuned mass damper, tuned liquid (column) damper, base isolation with rubber bearings, active mass damper, smart vibration control and their applications in real civil engineering projects carried out at the Dalian University of Technology. We also include concluding remarks and future works and suggestions towards the end of the seminar.

Prof. Hong-Nan Li is the dean of Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering, Dalian University of Technology (DUT), China. He got his Ph. D., M. S. and B. S. in 1990, 1987 and 1982, respectively. Dr. Li is a Cheung Kong Scholar. He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of China Panel, International Association for Structural Control and Monitoring; the Vice Chairman of Advanced Materials and Structures, ASCE Aerospace Division; and Chairman of Panel of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). His research interests are in the areas of structural control and monitoring, disaster prevention and reduction and earthquake engineering. He has awarded more than 30 research grants from governments and industries, and contributed to more than 50 practical engineering projects with his new techniques and methods. He has been awarded 24 patents, and has published 7 books and 278 journal papers, of which 106 are SCI indexed. He won 2 national Science and Technology awards and 10 provincial awards. He is active in international collaborations with researchers from United States, Japan, Australia, Korea etc.
