The accelerated B.S./graduate degree program is open to qualified undergraduate engineering students desiring to continue their education at the graduate level IMMEDIATELY upon completion of the B.S. degree. This program is intended for students seeking a graduate education while ensuring that the timeframe to graduation is optimal. Accepted students take up to six graduate credit hours that are applied to both the bachelor’s and graduate degrees. Students may pursue either thesis or nonthesis Masters degree options. The B.S. degree will be conferred upon completion of the undergraduate curriculum requirements with appropriate undergraduate/graduate course substitutions. The graduate degree shall be awarded based upon existing requirements for the graduate degree.

Eligibility and Application
Interested students should submit an “Accelerated B.S./Graduate Program” application form to the undergraduate advisor (s). Minimum eligibility requirements are:
- Junior standing and 30 semester hours of engineering course work completed;
- A 3.25 grade point average over all UH course work;
- A 3.25 grade point average over all engineering course work
Students who do not meet the GPA requirements may still be admissible after a holistic review, and for this reason, they are encouraged to speak to an ME undergraduate faculty advisor before applying to the program. The application package must be approved by the Director of Undergraduate Advising.
Graduate Courses Taken As An Undergraduate
The graduate courses must be selected from the 6000-level offerings of the MECE Department (5000 level course/session does NOT qualify). The MECE Director of Graduate Admissions as well as the Director of Undergraduate Advising must approve the selection prior to enrollment in the courses.
This determination will be made with regard to the student’s preparation for the course material and the degree to which the courses complement the student’s undergraduate program.
The 6000-level courses will be substituted for 5000- level electives in the MECE undergraduate degree requirements.
Admission to the Graduate Program
Acceptance into the Accelerated Program does not constitute automatic admission to graduate school. Completion of the B.S. degree and the standard admission requirements for each graduate degree program apply. Elements for graduate admission include the GPA on the last 60 hours of relevant course work, and the student’s performance in the dual-credit courses. GRE waivers are available for students with qualifying UH GPA and those applying for the UH Extend MS program. Qualified graduate applicants to the PhD program are considered for research or teaching assistantships and fellowships available through the department and the university.
Granting of Degrees
The B.S. degree will be conferred upon completion of the undergraduate curriculum requirements with appropriate undergraduate/graduate course substitutions. The Graduate degree shall be awarded based upon existing requirements: completion of courses with satisfactory grades and successful defense of the thesis or dissertation as required.
